Why Does Yogi Bear Have a Tie and Collar?

By Gene Turnbow, August 17, 2011

… but no shirt?  The answer to this will surprise you.  And, the collar has actually had a profound effect on modern animation production, especially for television.  I stumbled across this video made by Bob Chipman of “The Big Picture” that explains the whole thing, and it’s a fascinating explanation. It has to do with the technical process of making animation for television fast and cheaply enough so that it was actually possible to do it for television and make any money at it.

Yes, there’s a commercial in the front of this, and I’m sorry about that, but once you get past that you get to the good stuff.
